The mbw Group has filed for insolvency, but business operations are continuing without restrictions. The next step is to restructure the company and find an investor in order to secure its future.

The mbw Group, which specializes in surface finishing, has filed for insolvency for several companies. This affects operational and non-operational units with a total of 320 employees at the Rheinmünster, Lichtenau, Einbeck, Mühlhausen, Sömmerda and Hartha sites. The Baden-Baden Local Court appointed lawyer Dr. Dirk Pehl from Schultze & Braun as provisional insolvency administrator. Business operations will continue without restriction and wages and salaries have been secured until February 2025 via the insolvency substitute benefits.

Focus on restructuring and finding an investor

The aim of the insolvency applications is the financial stabilization and strategic realignment of the group. Dr. Pehl is examining restructuring options and will start the search for investors immediately. "We are talking to financial and strategic investors, including competitors or companies looking to expand their portfolio. The mbw Group has developed into future-oriented finishing processes, which makes an investment attractive," says Dr. Pehl.

Imbalance due to weakening automotive industry

The economic difficulties are a result of the current economic situation in the automotive industry, a key customer sector for the mbw Group. Delayed series start-ups and increased material, energy and personnel costs have placed an additional burden on the company.
