Whether coating is applied correctly is usually only judged after baking. But by then it is often too late and rejects have already been produced. It would make more sense to measure before baking, when the powder coating has not yet polymerized. Ideal Trade Service (ITS), a specialist in coating systems, has developed a system that ensures the lowest possible paint consumption while maintaining the required uniform coating thickness and quality over the entire product surface. The measured data is evaluated while the coating system is in operation, with feedback in the form of a correction to the operating parameters of the application technology.
The technology, called HiVisiony DeepControl, can help save up to 20% of powder coating costs. The process of measurement, evaluation and correction is relatively complicated. The measurement of the coating layer is very accurate, with a maximum deviation of +/- 5 µm, which is the limit of today's technical possibilities. The measurement is, of course, contactless, since the paint is measured unbaked and any contact would damage the treated surface. The system operates automatically.
