With a comprehensive realignment, Fraunhofer LBF will bundle its expertise in materials, structures, and systems starting in 2026. The aim is to provide comprehensive support to industry partners in the development of reliable, durable, and recyclable products.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability LBF in Darmstadt is strategically repositioning itself in 2026. The aim is to provide industrial partners with comprehensive research and development services from a single source – from material selection and component and system evaluation to validation, operational monitoring, and recyclability throughout the product life cycle.

Research, transfer, and infrastructure clearly interlinked

At the heart of the new structure is the "Research and Development (RD)" division with six research departments that systematically develop scientific expertise and translate it into application-oriented solutions. This is complemented by the "Innovation, Transfer and Cooperation (ITC)" division, which analyzes market needs, initiates new projects, and supports the transfer to industrial applications. The Test Bench Design, Implementation and Operation (TIO) department also bundles the test infrastructure for validation and testing.
