The Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft unanimously elected Holger Hanselka as its new president on May 25. "As an engineer, company founder and university lecturer, Holger Hanselka has passed through all facets of business, science and research in his professional career in leadership positions and has acquired precisely the skills that are now needed at the helm of Fraunhofer," says Hildegard Müller, Chair of the Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Before joining the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the 61-year-old headed the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability LBF in Darmstadt and was a member of the Presidential Board of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft from 2006 to 2012.
"The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft's confidence in electing me to the office of president is an honor, responsibility and incentive for me at the same time. Together with the more than 30,000 experts at Fraunhofer, I will work to develop sustainable solutions for the pressing issues of our time," says Holger Hanselka, the new president of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Science and research have the task of supporting humanity in the fight against climate change, in dealing with artificial intelligence and digitization, and in addressing the questions of nutrition and mobility of the future.
