Excelitas presents perfectly tailored drying solutions at the K trade fair

Excelitas will be presenting Noblelight solutions for plastics processing at the K plastics trade fair in October. On display will be infrared emitters that are tailored to the product and process in terms of shape, voltage and power, as well as UV technology for curing.

The infrared contour emitters from Excelitas are shaped like the contours of glove compartments, interior trims or pipes. This allows the heat to act precisely on the burr or the edge, which minimizes the energy input and optimizes the production step. "This automates a complex process with reproducible results," says application specialist Michael Jauch, "We know customers who have now carried out more than half a million deburring cycles with the same set of blasting tools." Excelitas will be showcasing these and other products at the K trade fair in Düsseldorf.

Welding in the automotive industry

In the automotive industry, many plastic products are assembled from several individual parts. Infrared emitters from Excelitas transfer heat without contact and can be used in programmed time cycles. In most cases, an infrared emitter module is inserted between two plastic parts and heats the surfaces of both parts. When the specified temperature is reached, the infrared module moves out and the ends of the parts are pressed firmly together and welded. Infrared welding systems offer many advantages compared to contact plate systems. The welding process is usually faster and also much cleaner, as no plastic sticks to the plates.

Deburr faster, reduce waste

Manual deburring with gas flames or special tools does not deliver consistently reproducible results. Infrared radiation heats plastic parts without contact and in a matter of seconds in a targeted manner on the surface. Shaped emitters direct infrared radiation exactly where it is needed. This is made possible by reflectors.

Precise heating of the cover

Door panels, headliners and other interior parts of a car are of a higher quality if the decorative overhang is bonded to the back of the workpiece. This lamination usually takes place in a bending tool, in which the adhesive on the decorative protrusions is activated by heat. Infrared contour radiators heat the edge folding area precisely and thus ensure a very efficient heating process.

Infrared heat for efficient use of energy

Infrared heating technology works by transmitting electromagnetic waves, which then generate heat in the product. Direct contact with the material is just as unnecessary as a transmission medium (gas or air). Infrared emitters transfer energy into the plastic product and generate heat exactly where it is needed.
