The EFDS (European Research Association for Thin Films) invites you to attend the workshop "Designing Interfaces – Innovations in Environmental and Biosensor Technology and Applications" in Tuttlingen. Research findings on functional coatings, thin films, and interfaces that enable the next generation of bio- and environmental sensors will be presented.

From May 20 to May 21, the EFDS is hosting the workshop "Designing Interfaces – Innovations in Environmental and Biosensor Technology and Applications" at Furtwangen University, Tuttlingen Campus. The focus is on bioanalytical and environmental sensor technologies.

Latest research on coatings and interfaces

The workshop will highlight current scientific developments in thin-film-based biosensors, biofunctional surfaces, micro- and nanostructured interfaces, and encapsulation and protective layers. A special focus will be placed on coatings that stabilize biological recognition elements, improve signal quality, and enable the use of sensors under real environmental and process conditions.

Vacuum, plasma, and thin-film technologies

Vacuum and plasma processes will be presented as key enablers for the production and scaling of functional sensor surfaces. Processes for precise surface activation, coating, and structuring will be discussed—from basic research to industrial implementation.

From research to application

Practical examples show the use of functional coatings in medical and diagnostic biosensors, in environmental and process monitoring, in printed and flexible sensor systems, and in photonic and implantable sensor solutions. The goal is to promote the transfer of current research results into applications.

Platform for exchange and networking

The workshop is aimed at researchers, developers, and industry representatives from the fields of surface and coating technology, sensor technology, materials science, and bioanalytics. It offers a space for professional exchange, new collaborations, and inspiration for future sensor applications.
