EcoY is a turnkey, vertical farm that enables the cultivation of fresh food in urban or resource-poor regions. The system uses solar energy and requires up to 95 percent less water than conventional farming methods. It is designed to achieve high yields in a limited space while minimizing production costs and energy consumption. EcoY is particularly suitable for urban areas or areas where conventional farming is not practical.
Plants grow in tubes
The system is based on Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), a technology in which environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, light and CO2 are controlled in a closed system. A key element is the so-called Grow Tubes - vertical planting tubes in which up to 80 seedlings are stacked on top of each other. This technology developed by CAN-Agri makes it possible to increase plant density and at the same time better control the conditions for plant growth.
Combined know-how for new agriculture
Dürr is contributing its experience in plant engineering, particularly in ventilation and air conditioning technology, to the solution. The company also uses its own software solutions from the DXQ product family to further increase the efficiency of the system. CAN-Agri complements this know-how with its expertise in agriculture and the development of new cultivation technologies. The company itself operates a vertical farm in Pretoria, South Africa, as a research and development center.
