The journey began when Jean-Michel Asfour used his research in the field of medical diagnostics at Böhringer Mannheim as a starting point to found Dioptic GmbH. "The demand for optical measurement technology was so great that I couldn't keep up on my own. So I founded Dioptic and immediately hired Klemens Bardelang, our first employee," he recalls.
The company started out with optical measurement technology for medical diagnostics and opened up to other markets and industries through its own website and its first trade fair appearance at Optatec 2002 in Frankfurt. Dioptic quickly developed further in the direction of diffractive optics. An important milestone was the collaboration with Bayer Innovation GmbH, where Dioptic developed a CGH-based writing and reading system for holographic security features.
A small core of dedicated employees grew into a team of around 50 specialists. In order to provide the growing team with the space it needed, the company moved into a new building in 2025.
The new building not only provided space for the team, which had previously been spread across two locations, but also enabled further growth and improved sustainability, according to the company. The new building offers workplaces with modern building technology, an optimized production environment, and an inspiring atmosphere, it says.
