Anzeige Painting and Coating | Created by SC

PFAS have been hot topic for the coatings industry as a ban is on the horizon. At the EC conference "Understanding PFAS and Reformulating PFAS-free Coatings", international experts will report on the latest developments on PFAS and their alternatives.

The PFAS conference organized by European Coatings will take place on November 18 and 19, 2024 in Cologne. It offers the opportunity for personal exchange with like-minded experts, the dissemination of new technologies, as well as collaboration and networking. The event is currently calling for papers.

PFAS - per- and polyfluorinated chemicals - are synthetic fluorine compounds, a group of over 10,000 substances with unique technical properties. Thanks to their stable carbon-fluorine bonds, they are water, dirt and grease repellent. Despite potential health risks, they are widely used because of their excellent resistance to heat and chemicals. But change is on the horizon: Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden are pushing for an EU-wide ban on PFAS from 2026. In recent years, the authorities in these countries have analyzed various PFAS, assessed their applications and potential hazards and developed a draft ban.
