The German Federal Association of Automotive Refinishers (BFL) will present training, craftsmanship and technological developments in the automotive refinishing profession at Automechanika Frankfurt from 8 to 12 September 2026. Digital applications, automation and recruitment of young talent will be among the main topics in the AMBITION event area in Hall 2.0.

The trade fair programme is aimed in particular at school students, trainees, teachers and parents, as well as industry professionals. Up to five masterclasses per day will give young automotive refinishers the opportunity to provide insights into training and day-to-day work. Together with ZKF, ZDK and BIV, BFL will also present the process chain involved in vehicle production.

Virtual spray booth and painting robot

Technological changes in the profession will be demonstrated, among other things, with a virtual spray booth where visitors can try out digital painting processes. The programme also includes a spray gun challenge and a real painting robot illustrating automation and technological transformation in automotive refinishing.

On 10 September, the German national automotive refinishing team will be present at the stand. The young professionals will discuss their experience in competitions and demonstrate practical skills by live-painting two electric karts.

Recruitment and creative vehicle refinishing

On 11 September, automotive refinisher and content creator Alexander Bloch from Stilbruch-Lack will present creative projects and individual vehicle design options. Several car shapes will also be customised live at the stand. Two individually designed electric vehicles will be presented as part of a charity campaign.

BFL is using the trade fair appearance to combine traditional craft skills with digital applications, automation and customisation. The programme also highlights how the profession is evolving technologically and which skills are likely to become increasingly important.
