"With the lab we are complementing a number of global technical innovations. These already include our 'LeanLab' here at the site, which we started up in 2018, as well as the plant for functionalizing films for various industries," says Uta Holzenkamp, head of BASF's Coatings division.
BASF has set itself the goal of achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. The new building makes its contribution by using the residual heat from the plant's own residue incineration plant for underfloor heating in the laboratories. Since the beginning of the year, one hundred percent of the electricity purchased at the Münster and Würzburg sites has also come from wind power. Compared with the previous year, this will save around 4,000 metric tons of CO2 in Münster alone.
