Axalta unveiled “Redefined” as the global automotive color of the year for 2027 at Automechanika in Frankfurt. The rich ruby red hue reflects incoming light with a subtle sheen. This creates different color impressions depending on the angle of the light and lends the color greater visual depth.
The shade draws on red as a classic automotive color and reinterprets it using the latest pigments and effect technologies. The development is based on insights from color science, consumer preferences, and international automotive and design trends.
Evolution of Radiant Red
Redefined builds on Radiant Red. Axalta launched its Global Auto Color of the Year project 13 years ago with this shade of red. Advances in pigment development, effect technologies, and color science now allow for a more nuanced formulation of the shade.

The ruby shade combines luminosity and depth and demonstrates how a familiar color can be reimagined through paint and color technology.

The Car Color of the Year also serves as an example of the development of pigments, effects, and color formulations in automotive paint.
