The Freddie Industrial AI Award recognizes industrial applications of artificial intelligence that are already delivering measurable benefits in practice. The company prevailed against more than 70 submissions with its AI-supported production planning. “Game Changer” is one of a total of six award categories.
According to a company statement, manufacturing at Vacom is characterized by customer-specific products, individual requirements, and varying workflows. The previous manual coordination of production planning was correspondingly time-consuming, especially in the event of last-minute changes to order priorities or disruptions.
The AI-powered software creates a comprehensive production plan that takes all workstations into account. In doing so, it coordinates production orders, material availability, and internal logistics. This enables realistic planning of production processes even when conditions change.
The company has been using artificial intelligence to support production planning for several years now. According to Kevin Mahler, Chief Operating Officer at Vacom, this has led to reduced lead times and improved on-time delivery rates.
