
Hot-dip galvanizer solves logistical challenge of high-bay warehouse
To provide steel components with long-lasting protection against corrosion, they are hot-dip galvanized. However, particularly large, complex steel structures often pose an enormous logistical challenge. A renowned company not only galvanizes, but also has logistical solutions ready for such cases.

The steel structures were delivered in binding sequence to Rietbergwerke, a company of the Seppeler Group. The largest elements of the high-bay warehouse were around 12 meters long - no problem for the galvanizing plant. "We can galvanize steel structures with a working dimension of up to 23 meters in length, 4.80 meters in height and 2.80 meters in width within the group of companies," explains Karsten Wietheger, sales manager at Rietbergwerke.
Following the galvanizing process, the steel elements were pre-sorted and temporarily stored by Rietbergwerke employees. In parallel, an external commissioning company was busy loading the products into the containers in the correct sequence for delivery by ship to the USA.
"The Seppeler Group saved us a lot of time and work, because normally we would have had to pick up the galvanized steel elements again in Rietberg in order to store them, re-sort them and transport them further. This way, we were able to save this work step completely," says Orzechowski.
Seppeler provided huge areas and the appropriate framework conditions to store the galvanized products there and then have them loaded into the shipping containers. In order to be able to ship the exact parts in the correct chronology, precise coordination between all project participants was of course always necessary. "We have been working with the Seppeler Group for many years and know that you can always rely on deadlines and agreements there," Orzechowski knows.
Pallets of plasterboard weighing up to 15 tons are stored in America in the fully automated and robust high-bay warehouse. Thanks to hot-dip galvanizing, the storage system is now protected against corrosion for up to 100 years and is therefore particularly resource-friendly.
