Zeschky: From coffee grinders to contract coating

Abstract

The Zeschky Group specialises in zinc and zinc alloy coatings, but also in coating systems such as cathodic dip coating and zinc flake and their possible combinations. With four locations and over 400 employees as well as a highly automated plant park, the company is one of the leading contract coaters. It all started in 1921, much smaller - and with coffee grinders.

More than 400 employees coat around 80,000 tonnes of material per year at the four sites of the  Zeschky Group. The process agents and chemicals are predominantly not delivered in IBCs with a volume of 1,000 litres, as is usually the case, but arrive by tanker. Zeschky Oberflächen operates a total of 23 fully automated coating lines at its sites. In Wetter, customers can order not only coatings with various zinc alloys, but also cathodic dip-paint coatings. The key expertise at Zeschky lies in the application-optimised combination of electroplated coatings, CDP and zinc flakes.

n the electroplating industry, the topic of energy has gained enormously in importance over the last two years. Zeschky is doing a lot to avoid wasting energy and resources. Around 500 meters record all consumption in the company, from electricity to water and heat. This allows consumption to be analysed. In addition, alarms can be triggered in the event of unusual developments in order to identify the cause of increased water consumption at an early stage, for example. The Wetter site has been operating with 100 per cent green electricity from hydropower since the end of 2021. But there are other reasons why the Zeschky Group is a good example of how the long-term success of a company is usually no coincidence, even in a difficult environment.
